And you can simulate fog or dust in the air if you add a fractal noise texture
(size=very low, like 0.01) to the transparency map button. That and the fallof
grid texture will make you lightbeam look very reallistic.

Add some acceleration to the fractal noise texture and the fog will move and ev
erything :)
